Seminar Speakers

Individual seminars may be presented by several different speakers depending upon their work and travel schedules. Below is a summary description of all the speakers at Reality Test, in alphabetical order.

 

Steve Allott

Steve Allott is the founder of ElectroMind Limited, a company that specializes in building and delivering creative training courses for the IT industry. He holds an honors degree in Computer Science and is a full member of the British Computer Society (BCS).

His career in IT spans over 25 years and includes development, testing and project management experience at ITT Telecommunications, The First National Bank of Chicago and Lloyds TSB. Steve’s innovative approach to the design and delivery of corporate training programs has helped many large organizations to increase the effectiveness of their testing.

Steve is a frequent and popular speaker at international conferences and has been a guest contributor to two books on test automation and inspections. He was program chair for the EuroSTAR international testing conferences in both 2000 and 2001 and is currently one of the team leaders on the BCS SIGIST software testing standards working party.

 

Ed Bryce

Ed has over twenty-one years of experience in software development, Quality Assurance, and testing in a variety of industries including manufacturing, software applications, engineering design, and systems integration. With seven years at Microsoft, Ed has been responsible for multiple-project test labs, data warehousing testing, web and traditional client-server based internal applications, localization testing, and meeting ISO 9000 requirements for European clients of Microsoft Consulting Services. Ed managed large cross-functional teams across multiple business units and was responsible for multi-million dollar budgets.

Prior to Microsoft, Ed worked at the Aldus Corporation (now Adobe) managing the testing effort for the PageMaker desktop publishing application. Ed also has experience at Deloitte and Touché working on a multi-year software integration project for The Boeing Company, where he was the Quality Assurance manager over the multi-company team.

In addition to traditional software development projects, Ed also designed, developed, tested, and implemented aerospace manufacturing systems for a major missile manufacturing company.

 

Ross Collard

Ross T. Collard is President of Collard & Company, a consulting firm which specializes in systems testing and quality assurance. His clients have included ADP, American Express, Anheuser-Busch, Bank of America, Baxter Healthcare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Boeing, Cisco, Citibank, Dell, EDS, Exxon, General Electric, Goldman Sachs, Federal Reserve Bank, Ford, Hewlett-Packard, Hughes Aircraft, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, JP Morgan, Merck, Microsoft, Motorola, NASA, Nortel, Procter & Gamble, Prudential, IBM, Swiss Bank, the U.S. Air Force, and Internet start-up companies.

Marquis Harding

Managing multimillion-dollar budgets and multi-disciplined staffs, Marquis has over eighteen years on software development, Quality Assurance, and testing. He has performed applications development for telephony engineering, software, and financial industries, and is an international speaker on QA processes and technologies. Marquis is also a member of the British Computer Society SIG setting the standards for performance testing in Europe.

His experience includes over 6 years at Microsoft as the Sr. QA manager for their Sales, Marketing and Production Support Systems, and integration efforts of major commercial software systems.  Later, he became the test manager for WindowsUpdate.com; the largest download site in the world with over 1.3 million downloads per day. Under Marquis’ direction, WindowsUpdate.com performed flawlessly, delivering 24x7 reliability with zero downtime. He directed the largest QA team within IT at Microsoft, while communicating and coordinating in a cross-functional team environment across multiple business units.

Prior to Microsoft, Marquis was at Charles Schwab. He managed the Business Systems Testing Group, supporting mission-critical applications in a complex environment of Unix, NT, Windows, and legacy systems.

Marquis started in testing at Pacific Bell, and became the computer System Manager for Information and Analysis. He developed systems and Quality Assurance processes for critical management systems. These systems supported the Chief Financial Officer in revenue, audit, and information systems.

 

Bret Pettichord

Bret Pettichord

Bret Pettichord is an independent consultant with experience using a wide variety of test tools and approaches. He's developed automated tests for software in various domains, including publishing, accounting, sales, systems management, education and benefits administration. The tutorial builds on Lessons Learned in Software Testing: A Context-Driven Approach, the best-selling book he co-authored with Cem Kaner and James Bach. Specializing in software testing and test automation, Bret has 14 years experience in software development, including positions as a staff consultant at Segue Software and a test automation lead at BMC and then IBM/Tivoli before becoming an independent consultant. Recent clients have included Texas Instruments, Rational Software, Texas Department of Human Services, Deliotte Consulting, Whisperwire and Netpliance. He learned about software testing as a tax programmer at Arthur Andersen and a software tester and automator at Interleaf.
